How to clear a web browser's cache and cookies?

When making changes to your website, upgrading your account, migrating your account from one server to another, or when transferring a domain name, your browsers may still be using and old version of your web site, which will lead to either you not being able to access your new site or you accessing the site hosted with your previous hosting company or previous hosting account you had with us.

In these situations there are 2 steps you need to take, one which is covered in this article "Clear your browser cache & cookies", the other is to Flush your DNS covered separately in this article.
 
Please, note that this article does NOT cover all browsers, and available releases. These are just sample instructions which maybe different in your case, depending on the browser and its release. If you do not see instructions for your specific version or browser, search your browser's Help menu for info on how to "clear cache".

Chrome

  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Select Clear browsing data.
  4. In the dialog that appears, select the check boxes for the types of information that you want to remove.
  5. Use the menu at the top to select the amount of data that you want to delete. Select beginning of time to delete everything.
  6. Click Clear browsing data.

 

Internet Explorer 8+

1. From the Safety menu in the upper right, click Delete Browsing History... .
2. Check Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History, and then click Delete.

Internet Explorer 7

1. From the Tools menu in the upper right, select Delete Browsing History.
2. Next to "Temporary Internet Files", click Delete files... .
   To delete your cookies, click Delete Cookies.
3. Click Close, and then click OK to exit.

FireFox 3.5 for Windows 

1. From the Tools menu, select Clear Recent History... .
2. From the Time range to clear: drop-down menu, select the desired range; to clear your entire cache, select Everything.
3. Click the down arrow next to "Details" to choose what history elements to clear (e.g., check Cookies to clear cookies). Click Clear Now.

Firefox 3 for Windows

From the Tools menu, select Clear Private Data... , and then check Cache and Cookies. Click Clear Private Data Now.

Firefox version 20+


1. At the top of the Firefox Windows, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences
2. Select the Advanced panel
3. Click on the Network tab
4. In the Cached Web Content section, click Clear Now.
5. Click Close to close the Preferences window.

Safari

1. From the Safari menu, select Reset Safari... .
2. From the menu, only select Empty the cache and Remove all cookies, then press Reset.

If you're unsure what browser version you're using, from the Help menu, select About.

If you do not see instructions for your specific version or browser, search your browser's Help menu for "clear cache".
